MOTTARONE

Mottarone Cableway provides a delightful 18 minute journey with spectacular views over the lake and the majestic Alps. From Lido Alpino Mottarone in Stresa the cablecar travels 1500 meters up the mountain, making an intermediate stop in Alpino. This same trip can be made by automobile when you have a little more time at your leisure. The picturesque 30 minute drive from Stresa to the top of Mt. Mottarone via a 5 ½ mile private asphalt tool road passes through mountain meadows, over rivers, through centuries old woods, the immense plain of the Po, wonderful scenic views of seven lakes, and the marvelous 14,640 ft. arc of the Monte Rosa Group of the Italian and Swiss Alps.

GARDINO ALPINIA

Situated in an area of unique beauty the Alpine Gardens botanic park stretches across 4 hectares 800 meters above the town of Stresa. It is easily reached by following the road to Mottarone peak, or by taking the cablecar from the Lido Alpino Mottarone. Above all the garden is known for its collection of plant species native to the alpine and subalpine zones of the Alps but it also has a remarkable collection of plants of the Caucasus, and of China and Japan. The Giardino Alpino is open from April 1st through October 15th from 9.00 to 18.00 daily (closed on Mondays). It is a 10 minute walk from the cablecar intermediate stop.
