SETTIMANE MUSICALI DI STRESA E DEL LAGO MAGGIORE
After the sumptuous 2011 Jubilee edition, the Stresa Festival, proposes in 2012 a series of not-to-be-missed events on Lake Maggiore and its surroundings.
The great novelty in 2012 is a sort of short jazz festival, scheduled in Stresa in the weekend of July 20, 21 and 22 and entitled Midsummer Jazz Concerts.
The Festival continues with the Musical Meditations, from July 27 to August 3, dedicated to Renaissance and Baroque music, whose highlight will be Bach’s Cello suites complete cycle, performed by the Hungarian Miklos Perenyi.
The Festival main core, whose title is Looking ahead, scheduled from August 25 to September 8, is featuring great artists, such as the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester conducted by Daniele Gatti with violin player Frank-Peter Zimmermann, the Budapest Festival Orchestra conducted by Iván Fischer, the Frankfurt Radio-Sinfonie-Orchester conducted by Paavo Järvi with the rising star Khatia Buniatishvili at the piano.
Gianandrea Noseda is conducting the European Union Youth Orchestra, while the semi-staged version of Il barbiere di Siviglia will be the result of the Lyric Singing Academy Giovani all’Opera. Internationally-known cellist Misha Maisky (first appearance at the Stresa Festival) will perform at the Tapestry Hall on Isola Bella, in the same venue the great violin player Viktoria Mullova will perform with Ottavio Dantone.
